About this campaign

Youth compassion heart is the Volunteer groupprovider of a number of community-based child and substance abuse prevention and crisis intervention programs for families. These programs are designed to change generational cycles of dysfunction, increase the level of family functioning, and prevent parents from abusing, neglecting or abandoning their children, thus, decreasing foster care placements. Each program is constructed around one of the major causes for abuse in society (learned behaviors, environmental stressors, and substance abuse). Assistance is offered to those families in the community who are in need of supportive services to enhance their parenting skills, overcome a temporary financial hardship, strengthen family relationships, and build a stronger community support system in an effort to minimize the likelihood of homelessness, substance abuse, and decrease parenting practices and behaviors associated with child abuse and neglect. The following educational and supportive services are provided to families in the community to prevent child abuse and neglect: In-home parenting education and support to increase parent's knowledge of child development and proper child management techniques Specialized social and emotional encouragement Reinforcement and modeling of proper parenting skills, while replacing inappropriate learned habits Comprehensive wrap-around social services and linkage to community providers for additional care and support Crisis intervention and emergency financial assistance to help reduce stress within the family Financial training and budgeting to give parents knowledge, skills and resources to properly provide for their children Employment education to promote economic stability and improve self-esteem Mental health treatment to help at-risk families cope Access to respite care Substance abuse prevention classes that educate and guide children to make appropriate choices and lower the incidence of substance abuse Greater access to physical and mental health care to promote overall well being for the entire family
