About this campaign

We're wearing green to bring awareness to the family caregiver experience. We want to lessen the loneliess and isolation that can be common when you ca for a family member or friend.

We're wearing green to bring awareness to the family caregiver experience. We want to lessen the loneliness and isolation that can be common when you care for a family member or friend. We're wearing green so we can spot each other in a crowd. Be sure to share photos of your green on social media, including Twitter and Facebook. We're having fun while giving a face to a sometimes invisible role—caregiving. I selected the color green for a few reasons. It's the color of spring, the season that feels most hopeful to me. I also chose green because of Donna Baldwin, a 1999 winner of our Caregiver of the Year contest. Before Donna cared for her mom, she had plastic plants in her home; she couldn’t keep a plant alive. As she cared for her mom, she developed a green thumb, eventually replacing most of her plastic plants for live ones. Caregiving can be such a difficult situation. It also can be an experience that fosters growth.

I cared for my father who had Parkinson's Disease from 2008 until his death in January 2013. I now care for my mom who is almost 85 and has dementia. She no longer recognizes me even though I am her only living child.
