AABR President Darren Alick spoke to the great Cardiologist at Chicago Vet Emergency and Specialty center on Monday, April 14, post Echo-cardiogram and it was not the news we were hoping for at all. Tani has been diagnosed with Congenital Heart Failure, more specifically Right to Left PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus). Unlike Left to Right PDA, this heart issue cannot be corrected with surgery. Many dogs who are diagnosed with PDA have left to right, its actually a very slim chance they can developed right to left like Tani has. Basically she has a hole in her heart that never closed as a puppy so when her heart beats, not all the blood is evacuate and what is not spills back into to her heart. This also causes extremely high blood pressure which is what is starting to stretch and "run" her heart down.
