About this campaign

Tropic Ocean Airways have generously offered to donate us a van, which will aid our travels around the island, picking up our field crews, supplies, and visitors from the airport. However, the cost of shipping this vehicle to our tiny island is extremely high. The shipping itself will cost approximately $1000, and the taxes and fees on arrival will be around $2000, we have no money to spare for this, so instead, we're tackling a race to raise funds.

Te Sharklab & Tropic Ocean Airways crews have teamed up, to enter the famous Spartan Sprint, taking place 5th December, in Miami.

The team will have to complete a 3-5 mile race, whilst also battling 20 Signature Spartan Obstacles including mud, fire, walls and barbed wire! Those of you that are familiar with the Sharklab know that we are no strangers to harsh environmental conditions or obstacles, whether it is pulling your boat out of a shallow lagoon through knee deep mud or carrying en-fouled towers to the proper location for observations. This race will take us even further out of our comfort zone, and we hope that our battle will encourage you to donate! No pain no gain!

The Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation (AKA Sharklab) is a non profit organisation, based on South Bimini, Bahamas.
We are a biological research station established in 1990 who aim to disseminate our research on sharks to the general public and help build strong, competent scientists, passionate about our oceans conservation.
We manage our daily living and research expenses through donations, grants, hosting college courses, and by working with film crews (You may have seen us on Discovery Channel, Nat Geo, BBC, etc.).

Any extra funding raised will go towards the race fees, which are $100 per person. Anything on top of that will go towards the general research fees that involve running the Sharklab ($160 covers the cost of fuel used on one long line) . You can be assured that none of it will go to waste!
