Each year, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)holds a large-scale fundraiser called the Man and Woman of the Year. The LLS not only provides groundbreaking cancer research, but also specific family and patient services. With this specific t-shirt booster, we can raise enough to fund one week of important one-on-one and group support for families dealing with the challenges of blood cancer treatment.

"It's powerful and concise...It's a response and a request..." - Amy Poehler, Yes Please
I am
responding to a call to action and requesting a cure. I am passionate about creating change and have
been inspired by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission to improve the
quality of life of parents and their families. Each year the LLS puts on a
large-scale fundraising event called the Man and Woman of the Year campaign.
Over the last 64 years, the LLS has invested more than $1 billion dollars in
effort to develop groundbreaking research to find the cause and cures for
various forms of blood cancer. The Man & Woman of the Year campaign aids in
funding much of this research and I wanted to reach out to you for your help in
this fight.
I am honored to accept the nomination for Woman of the Year 2015. Each dollar candidates raise within their respective teams counts
as a “vote” and with the funds raised throughout this process, we can help The
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fund research and develop breakthrough
therapies, support patients bravely fighting blood cancer as well as survivors
and their families. We can also help patients navigate their cancer treatments
and ensure that they have access to quality, affordable and coordinated care.
This cause
is important to me in a multitude of ways.
For those of you who do not know me, I am a recent graduate from San Francisco State
University and was the president of my sorority Alpha Gamma Delta. As a leader
of such a team, I was constantly involved in philanthropies throughout my four
years there, so this step in working with LLS towards a cure seems only natural
to me. Having had family members and
close friends who have bravely fought various types of cancer, including blood
cancers, I understand the fear, uncertainty and desire for hope.
I have
created my team “Cure cancer? Yes Please!” and we are working hard to help fund
blood cancer research, provide education and offer patient services to those in
need. We can't do it by ourselves, though! With your help we can continue searching for a cure, not someday but today.
Below are two of the campaigns honorees, Jack (9) and Celia (6). Each are nearing the end of their treatment and continuing to kick cancers butt!
