More About Thurston

Thurston is a 6 week old baby with extreme orthopedic deformities. He will require long term therapy and surgeries.

Shirts will arrive approximately 2 weeks after the close date.

You can view the Crewneck sizing chart here.

Thurston is a 6 week old mixed breed puppy that was turned in to Dekalb County Animal Services.

Luckily, he has a normal spine. His joints are rotated and deformed. He will eventually need surgery requiring pins and plates on at least one leg, possibly two. His front feet severely turn outward. His right rear leg turns in and is sideways. He is being treated as a swimmers syndrome puppy for now though this is not classic swimmers.

Swimmers puppies are very flacid, he is very stiff. We are having to use the same treatment to loosen the shoulders and try to get them in the correct placement. This is due to a birth defect. What we dread is that the hobbles are causing his feet to turn out more. We have to weigh the pros and cons though. We are discussing hobbling him during the day and placing braces on his feet at night. He will begin water therapy in a few days. We just want to try to get the shoulders down some first. He seems fine neurologically. We are having to teach him about food and water, he was probably still nursing. He is a little skinny but that will be fixed quickly.

He may still eventually end up in a cart but we will cross that bridge when we get there. So, everything will be in steps, slow steps, please be patient with us. I have a doctor and therapist I completely trust. He has the same therapist that took care of both Mavis and Hope.
