On April 14th, 2011, Paula went to her OBGYN. During the appointment, the doctor discovered a 12.4 cm in diameter mass on her ovaries and abdomen. She was sent to Baptist East in Memphis for surgery and was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. After months and months of chemo, she was finally able to have her last chemo on January 4, 2013. Many family and friends gathered for a Last Chemo Day/ Birthday party for Paula. Round two with cancer came in October of 2013. When the doctor noticed her CA-125 levels were increased. After testing she was told the cancer was in the peritoneum, which is the outer layer of the abdominal cavity. Her battle continues with chemotherapy.
In February 2014, Paula had severe abdominal pain. She was admitted in Baptist East in Memphis and the doctor said she had a partial bowel obstruction and decided there was no surgery to be done as she had improved over night. Then on Feb 21, 2014 the doctor discovered that there was a 1 cm spot of cancer. On April 16, 2014, Paula had surgery to bypass the now full obstruction.
Paula Sue Lincoln Gragg, 53, of Jonesboro, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She has lived in Jonesboro since 1981, moving here from Maynard. Paula was a woman of truly genuine faith; her life’s work was helping others and serving the Lord. She was a member of the South Caraway Baptist Church and was their music director for many years. Paula excelled at the sport of basketball. She played round ball at Williams Baptist College, Arkansas State University and for the All American Redheads. Paula received her Master’s in Education from ASU and was an instructor for over 29 years at ANC College near Burdette.
Paula Gragg was an amazing woman who touchedand saved so many lives. Paula's cancer turned out to be a gene passed down from generation to generation. Members of her family were tested and began taking the proper measures to be cancer free. Paula was a very hard worker. She cared for others above herself. She was and is still a soldier for Christ only now is she working hand in hand with her Lord and Savior in heaven.
