Our goal is to sell 200 t-shirts in 2 weeks!! For every shirt sold, the profits will go to the family and a portion will go to childhood cancer research as well.
Madelynn Curtis Nelson was born a sweet, energetic, smart and loving child in July of 2011. She has been an overall healthy child for her whole 2 years of life. She loves her Mommy, Daddy, Baby Lucy, MiMi, Poppie, GiGi and Pa more than anything in the world. So when she started having random fevers they were all concerned. The pediatrician did not think anything of it. They noticed that she was starting to loose weight, so they switched doctors. This new pediatrician new something was not right because he felt that her liver was enlarged. He admitted her to the hospital for testing, and an ultrasound.
On Friday, November 22, 2013, Madelynn Nelson was diagnosed with a common childhood cancer, a Wilm's tumor on her kidney. She had surgery to remove the tumor and her kidney on November 26, 2013, just two days before Thanksgiving. Once the doctors got in there, they determined that this was not what they thought it was originally. From first glance at it, they think it is a neuroblastoma. They took a sample of her bone marrow, and decided to leave the tumor and the kidney until they knew exactly what they were dealing with. After a quiet two days of resting and no tests, on Friday, November 29th, the doctors came back with results that were not what they wanted to hear. The tests confirmed stage 4 neuroblastoma.
Madelynn started chemo the next day, and has only been having smalls side affects such as being very tired and irritable. She kept getting random fevers while in the hospital. Once she finished her 5 straight days of chemo, and 24 hours of being fever free, she finally got to go home, after 2 weeks.
Three days after being home, her baby sister, Lucy, was born! Madelynn went up to the hospital to meet her, and gave her a kiss on the head, and then she was ready for lunch.
This family has a long road ahead of them with Madelynn’s year long treatment plan, including 5 rounds of chemo, surgery, multiple trips to MUSC, and many trips to the doctor. They also have a newborn to raise over that year.
Every dollar counts. A portion of all moneys raised for this family will go to research for childhood cancer, and the rest of it will go straight to the family for bills, and any expenses for traveling.
Thank you for your donations, and continued prayers for this amazing family, and strong little girl.
