Domestic abuse IS preventable; however, every day we hear about another assualt or another death that could have been prevented. Most domestic violence incidents are never reported. Help change the facts! Speak up, speak out, and make a difference for victims of domestic violence.
This subject hits home for a lot of people, myself included.
October 24, 2013 will be a day I will never forget. That day, my whole life changed. My sister Katie, her unborn child, and her six month old daughter, Aries, were killed in a car accident. According to the report, my sister's boyfriend caused the wreck intentionally. They were having problems within the relationship in the weeks leading up to their demise. Katie finally got the courage to remove herself and her children from the abuse when her boyfriend decided to take matters into his own hands.
That night, he turned the headlights off to his vehicle and drove the car into oncoming traffic. My sister, her boyfriend (the driver), and their two children were killed on impact. The driver of the vehicle they hit endured multiple injuries, both phyiscal and emotional, but managed to escape the wreckage with the help of a rescue team.
If we would have been able to see what was going on, we may have been able to save innocent lives. We may have been able to spare my nephew, Eli, the pain of losing his mother and his siblings all in one tragic night.
Please, join me in taking a stand for those who no longer can.
