About this campaign

teambetty support group

Mom was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on December 22, 2016. Just 7 months ago, Mom was crocheting, pulling weeds from her yard, writing her own checks, and doing anything she could to lead a normal life as a retired widow. She began noticing her hands were weak, so initially the doctor's believed she had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Little did we know the evil that had actually taken over her body. Within weeks, her hands continued to weaken and within months, she has lost all use of her arms and hands. Hugging was one of Mom's greatest forms of affection. She gave the best hugs. She never knew a stranger and who'd have thought that one day even a simple hug would be impossible for her. I told her that she used her arms all of those years, now it's time everyone used their arms to wrap around her. "Free hugs", is a way of giving her and anyone else you approach, just that! Life is so short and much shorter when faced with something as terrible as this disease. Make the most of it and give hugs. You never know who might need one. Thank you for all of your support. There are many appliances and devices that would help make Mom comfortable that are not fully covered by her insurance, Medicare and UHC. Any proceeds we receive from these shirts will go towards this equipment, or to the ALSA. Love to you all! #teambetty strong!- Beth
