On MondayApril 14th, Audrey wasn't feeling well due to a low grade fever, sore throat and headache. She decided to stay home from school that daybut went back to schoolthe next couple of days to make it to the Easter break starting Thursday. When she was still feeling bad that Friday, they decided to go to the doctor to check everything out. The doctor ran a Strep test that came back negative and they figured it was just a virus and decided to give it a few days for Audrey to improve on her own. On Easter Sunday Audrey started feelingworse and didn't have the energy to go with her family on their annual Easter visit to Ennis. As the day wore on her fever continued to climb and by evening her energy level had crashed. The next morning, despite Audrey's desire to go to school, her mom made another appointment with their doctor to follow up on her condition. That morning the doctor ran a battery of tests for Strep, Flu, and Mono. While the Strep and Flu tests were negative, the blood work results were abnormal. The doctor was concerned withthe results and sent them immediately to Children's Medical Center for additional tests informing them that they may need to be prepared to stay overnight. When they arrived at Children's and were sent to the sixth floor they were shocked to seethe sign that read "Oncology and Blood Disorders". Later that afternoon the test results confirmed that Audrey has Leukemia.

Audrey and her family have a firm resolve to win this battle! Her official diagnosis is Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APML) which is a very rare but treatableform of this cancer. On Thursday Audrey began her chemotherapy treatments and took the first step towards beating this horrible disease. While it will be a long journey for Audrey, her parents, and her youngerbrother and sister, with your support it will be an easier cross to bear. As a junior in high school, Audrey should be looking forward to her senior year and all of her activities. Instead, nowher focus is on winning the war against cancer!
