Team Sisters Out of the Darkness Overnight 6-17-17

My sister was lost in a darkness from which she could see only one way out. Her suicide sent me into a darkness that took a long, long time for me to escape. I carried guilt, sorrow, and anger with me, invisible boulders tied around my neck. I changed into someone I didn’t know and didn’t like. My steps to healing began while I was training for the first Out of the Darkness Overnight walk, which was in DC in 2002. It helped bring the truth of my sister’s suicide out into the light. My best friend and I walked 26.2 miles through the night in honor of my sister. When the Overnight returned to DC in 2013, I walked 18 miles alone yet with hundreds of people. On June 17, 2017, the Overnight will return to DC and I will walk all night in honor of my sister and to raise awareness and to prevent others from experiencing what happened to my family.
