On March 26th, 2016 the life of one young man was changed
forever. Jacob Wishnew, who we all know and love, was recently diagnosed with
Lymphoma. Jacob is currently in intensive care surrounded by his family and
friends. We would like to show Jacob that he is not in this fight alone.
Right now there is a storm raging, a battle that needs to be
fought. Those who know and love Jacob are close to that storm, but we can only
see the debris and feel the powerful winds. We know the storm is strong and
capable of so much damage. But we also know that after every storm, the sun
shines and the rainbows flourish. It is hard to see past the storm as it rages
on, but deep down we know it shall pass soon.
The Wishnew family is directly in the storm. Everything they know
is blowing and flying around them. It's almost as if the roof, walls, and every
belonging has been crushed and is currently swirling around them. They are in
the eye of this storm...it is calm...they stand still and peaceful. They see
the storm, they feel the winds, hear the roars, the debris continues to fly at
them...but they remain shielded somehow. They feel fear trying to creep up
inside of them, but there is armor around them as if to protect them.
We can't pull them out of the storm. We can't rescue them. The
only thing we can do is keep whispering that we will ride the storm out with
them. We can promise that we will be here to help rebuild. We can nurse the
wounds and celebrate with them when the ies clear, the rainbow appears, and
the birds begin to sing again. We can keep our eyes on theirs ... to reassure
them that we are here to help and that this storm will pass.
They are in the eye...they are clinging to Jesus. And, He
refuses to let go of their hands. He will calm this storm, this we know.
So today, we pray for a rainbow and chirping birds for Jacob and
his family. They are anchored fothe duation othis storm, but we humbly ask
for it to pass soon and for the skies to clear. In the meantime, please lock
your eyes and hearts with theirs and reassure them that we are here to ride the
storm out with them.
...The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us!
We're going to drown!"
He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so
afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was
completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this?
Even the winds and the waves obey him!" - Matthew 8
