This is Mike's original summary, from the first campaign:

During Winter Break 2013, Dr. Foley (my mom) was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She told my family that things would likely begin moving very quickly, Christmas was packed full of doctor appointments and medical tests. She has since begun chemotherapy, which is not only extremely physically taxing, but also incredibly emotionally difficult. While my Dad and I are doing everything we can, this is a very difficult and frightening time for her. We're doing our best to be supportive and make this as easy as possible, but with the rest of our family back in Canada, there's only the two of us. However, the School of Music is also an incredibly supportive and loving community who would do anything to help her through this painful process. I want her to see how many people are here for her and are standing behind her throughout her treatment. I know that seeing a huge outpouring of support and love will raise her spirits immensely and help her keep her head up and stay strong. I don't intend to tell her about this; much like Mean Girls, I want us all to wear our Pink on Wednesday, February 26th. It'll be a wonderful surprise and something that will mean the world not only to her, but to me as well. A sincere, heart-felt thank you to everyone who joins with me on Team Gretchen! -Mike Foley
