About this campaign

One of the most important aspects of our mission is to ensure the academic achievement of our youth. We found that exposing students to positive post high school environments motivates them to do better in school and within their communities. The Life In Transition Tour allows for some of our students to experience campus life with young people who look just like them making, and are a difference in their own personal lives through the avenue of education.

Council for Unity has been addressing the varied issues of youth, particularly at-risk youth, for over 40 years. Our mission to empower young people, individuals and groups with the skills necessary to promote unity, safety and achievement in schools and communities is demonstrated through our school-based programming in over 20 public schools throughout New York State. In all, Council for Unity serves over 400 youth on a daily basis.

The criteria for participation are: two letters of recommendation from a non-family member, submission of their transcript, completion of application and essay (500 word minimum). These requirements emulate that of the college application process. Council for Unity believes in the efficacy of this project and the students are excited about having an opportunity to attend.

The actual cost for the trip per student is $625. Unfortunately, due to funding cuts, Council for Unity can only afford to subsidize half of the actual cost per student. We are left with charging the students $375 each and we will need to fundraise the rest. This cost covers round trip bus service from New York to Virginia; four night’s lodging; and, meals. If we cannot raise the needed amount we will have to shorten the trip. L.I.T.T. 2.0 would take place from April 10th to April 14h, 2017. Many of the youth that we serve come from a population that is at 200% of poverty or below and $375 is a fortune, especially in these hard times.

We are asking for any contribution you can make to help defray the costs of this trip for our youth. Your tax deductible donation will go directly to helping expose a young person to the value of a college education and making an investment in their future. 10209590496932016jpg
