SPEAK UP! Help SPEAK get to the Clinton Global Initiative University

Hey! I hope this finds you well and with a smile! My name is Naomi S. Daugherty and I am a junior studying Communication, Women and Gender Studies, and Playwriting at the University of Missouri. I NEED YOUR HELP in my quest to attend the Clinton Global Initiative University in Phoenix Arizona, on behalf of my organization SPEAK Community Theater.

SPEAK Community Theater is an initiative that prompts youth to use the creative arts as an instrument for social change. Currently, students in Columbia Missouri area high schools participate in SPEAK to become better writers, creators, artists, and positive influences on society. SPEAK hopes to propel our mentees to become active voices in their communities and to take action against the political and societal injustices that they and their peers are faced with.
SPEAK also allows for students at the University of Missouri to serve as mentors for our high school youth, by serving as positive role models and driving our students to channel their inner social activist. SPEAK Community Theater takes pride in serving youth through community service and hopes to build a legacy through the creative arts and mentorship.

The Clinton Global Initiative University is a conference designed by Bill Clinton to bring future world leaders together in order to engage in efficient conversation and cultivate innovative solutions. The courageous conversation and development of innovative ideas held at the conference is a challenge for future leaders to take action towards addressing our pressing global challenges. I have been selected, after an extensive application process and amongst students across the globe, to attend the 2014 conference in March. In my commitment to action, under the focus area of Peace and Human Rights, I have pledged to charter additional branches of SPEAK Community Theater around the nation. SPEAK is currently a University of Missouri notarized organization of which I serve as Executive Director and Founder. Our second charter will be established at Northwestern University and will work with the surrounding high schools in their community.

As a financially independent college student I do not have the necessary funds to pay for lodging and airfare in order to attend the conference. Thus, to effectively catalyze societal change through the arts, I need your help. I am hoping to raise 700 hundred dollars to cover my stay from March 20th-24th as well as the cost of my airfare. Your generous donation will contribute to the efficiency of SPEAK’s mission while also enhancing my ability to follow my dream of spreading love, understanding, and compassion to every person of the world.
