Shark Stewards is dedicated to saving threatened sharks through science, education and advocacy.
Sharks are in Deep Trouble.
After observing finned sharks and learning about the plight of sharks I quit my University job and founded Shark Stewards to fight for sharks. We produced a film Shark Stewards of the Reef in 2007 and introduced the California Shark fin ban through our Assemblyman. Since that time, 9 other US state shark fin bans have been implemented. But the fight must continue.
This drive will support our work on 3 other Shark fin trade bans in the USA and creating a shark sanctuary and shark protections in Southeast Asia and in the San Francisco Bay.

Sharks are symbols of ocean health. This health is declining and we must restore ocean health for the future of humanity. Our campaigns e.g. the Healthy Oceans Initiative and the San Francisco Shark Sanctuary are directed towards raising awareness on shark conservation and marine ecosystem protection. We advocate policy including the banning of shark finning, and regulating the shark fin trade in the USA and the Pacific Rim. Our Shark Watch educational and outreach efforts in the San Francisco Bay brings underserved youth to the ocean. Our sister organization Sea Stewardsreaches a world audience through the production of ocean documentary films and short media. Shark Stewards is a non profit project of the Earth Island Institute.
