We were told he was born with this tumor. He had to have major brain surgery to remove the tumor and find out if it was cancerous. He went into cardiac arrest for 25 mins during that surgery and they were only able to get a third of the tumor out. It is a miracle that he survived and was able to fully recover! They told us he would never talk, walk,or see.. Roman proved them all wrong and continues to overcome all obstacles thrown at him! They also confirmed through pathology that they could not figure out what kind of cancer it is. He then had to endure another surgery to remove the rest. Little did we know that there was a piece of tumor that had fallen off of the large mass due to gravity and the length of time he had the tumor, it lodged in his neck. From there, after the surgeries he was admitted to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation hospital for rehab. He was blind and lost mobility. He had to relearn everything. How to eat, talk, roll over, sit up, crawl, walk and slowly he began regaining his vision after 3 months! After he was released from Mary Free Bed, we immediately started chemo. He was on extremely high doses of chemo that required a week hospital stay each round. He would then end up with infection shortly after each round and we were back in the hospital for weeks, and this vicious cycle lasted over 6 months. We then took a break from chemo to wait and watch and found out that the tumors had started growing while on chemo and spread all down his spine. They then referred us to Ann Arbor Motts Children Hospital where we came up with a new plan of treatment. He had sever reactions to these new medications and ended up in the hospital again as it wiped out his bone marrow completely. He was burned from the inside out, making all his skin peel off and he lost his finger nails and toe nails too. Once his bone marrow recovered which was a miracle on its own, we started another experimental treatment and also on that treatment his tumors showed how relentless they are and came back even worse. We found out that he had 6 new tumors in his brain. Then we were told to take him home and there was nothing else that they could do. We have had him on a circumstantial treatment that is monitored by his oncologist, and pediatrician because he is chemo resistant and radiation in not an option. This treatment is our only hope! He is currently doing wonderful! He has had stable MRI's for 2 years now and we feel its time for Roman to get out and have some fun!!! This is only a small glimpse at his journey so far. Roman has another upcoming MRI the beginning of March. Praying for great results!! We found out that FINALLY ONE OF HIS TUMORS ARE SHRINKING!!!!!! We will never give up fighting for Roman!!! Thank you so much for your time and donations and prayers!!! They are appreciated beyond words!! You can ask to follow Romans story on his Facebook page Blessings for the Booth's <3
