Shakescar Needs You!

Shakespeare Carolina is an award winning ensemble of professional theatre artists and musicians devoted to re-imagining the classical canon. Since our incorporation as a non-profit organization in 1997, we have presented 15 works of Shakespeare, an evening of Tennessee Williams’ lesser known one act plays, Jo Clifford’s stunning Ines De Castro, Judith Malina’s translation of Brecht’s Antigone as well as the original work Illuminaria. ShakesLab ShakesCar would like to build on the artistic success of its recent production of Antigone by furthering its company members’ training in the techniques of Brecht, Malina, Chaiken, and Grotowski, as well as clown, dance and improvisation. To this end, ShakesCar is looking to establish, ShakesLab, a rehearsal and small performance venue to serve as an incubator for creative performance techniques and new avenues of theatrical expression. It would also serve as an educational outreach center for the Greater Rock Hill Community, offering classes and workshops to the public. In a perfect world, this facility would house ShakesCar’s offices and a multi-use studio/classroom/meeting space/theatre.
