Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure Fundraiser - Brenda Fox

Every 19 seconds, someone is diagnosed with breast cancer. Every 74 seconds, someone dies from breast cancer. An alarming statistic, one that has propelled me to act in the fight against this disease and work towards the goal of a world free of breast cancer. This will be my sixth year participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 DayFor the Cure, a sixty mile walk over the course of three days. I walked for the first time in November 2009 in memory ofmy mother, who died from breast cancer on June 24, 1984 at the age of45. Although it's been over 29 years, I love and miss her every day. Mymother missed so many important events in my life..... my high schooland college graduations, my wedding, and the births of my threechildren, just to name a few. Due to the walk being taken out of Arizona, I thought last year was going to be my last walk. However, I realized that I don't want my participation in this event to end.... there's still too much work to be done as long as breast cancer poses a threat to everyone's ability to live a full lifetime. Therefore, I have committed myself to participatingin this event until either a cure is found or I am physically unable to do so.
