can you remember when

Research in Alzheimer's Disease, the sixth leading cause of death, is just beginning to understand the mechanisms behind this debilitating disease. Medications can slow progression of the disease but there is no cure.

I walk for my Mom who is in the advanced stage of Alzheimer's.  I think she knows who I am;  I am sure that she is aware that I am someone close to her.  She hasn't called me by my name in several years.  Am I her sister?  Her mother?  She isn't sure.  She becomes confused at times on how to dress herself, she can't follow simple directions and conversations that are more than two sentences long are confusing.
 
When you purchase a T-shirt you can start a conversation by asking the question "can you remember when..."  That one question will bring awareness about Alzheimer's Disease to others .  "Can you remember when... you learned to ride a bike? ... you watched your kids take their first step?  Someone afflicted with Alzheimer's can't.  Eventually they won't remember who you are, how to get dressed, how to speak.  

Do you know someone with Alzheimer's Disease?  Ask them if they can remember when...  I bet they can't.
