About this campaign

You will be helping surround countless critically ill children in beauty as they fight to get well.

In January of 2014 we were flown by medical jet from Omaha Nebraska to Texas Children's Hospital for my daughter to start the heart and lung transplant process. Upon our arrival to the Children's Hospital I immediately noticed how depressing and outdated her room seemed. As did she. Our first impression was that we had made the wrong choice in hospitals and would be receiving subpar care. However, after our first 24 hours we were incredibly impressed by the knowledgeable and caring staff. They had state of the art equipment. With every shift change came competent staff. The staff consistently went above and beyond in terms of providing high quality care, Yet the mood that the room set was still very depressing. Orange and mint green checked curtains and a window at the head of the bed that gave no view. The rooms are small and cramped and you feel extremely boxed in. Once venturing out into the rest of the hospital was an option I noticed that the PICU did not fit. The rest of the hospital is bright and airy and open. My daughter passed away in one of these depressing rooms. I remember as her time came close asking to be moved to a hospice room, to which they did not have one. I hated the thought of the depressing room being the last things that she would see. I vowed to change that in any way that I could. I researched for months on the most cost effective ways to improve the existing PICU rooms, as a total remodel would cost millions. So I decided on Scenic View Curtains. They are anti microbial, beautiful and affordable. It brightens the rooms and gives the children a view to daydream with. I know it doesn't seem like much. However imagine being an imaginative child...very sick and stuck in a depressing room with no view. At least with the curtains they can imagine that are traveling to those mountains or beaches...they can escape their dreary room.
With our very first fundraising event we raised $3000. There are now 5 rooms at Texas Children's Hospital with these curtains. The PICU is huge and consistently full to capacity. It takes an entire day to swap out the curtains so the progress seems slow, yet more importantly it is being made!!!!  Please join us in improving the stay for countless children....making their already stressful stay in the PICU a little brighter.
