Run For Kyler 2015

Kyler Jackson Torres was born June 23rd 2014 into the arms of Jesus. My husband and I found out that Kyler had Thanatophoric Dysplasia, a lethal form of dwarfism, not compatible with life. I got the pleasure of carrying him for 8 beautiful months but God had other plans. I know that someday I will hold him in my arms again but until then we will always have our son, and my older son's baby brother, missing. You can read more at BabyKyler.blogspot.com.

What is FGFR3?
FGFR3 isfibroblast growth factor receptor 3, and is a gene that emits protein FGFR3. This is found in acondroplasia, or dwarfism, as most people know it.Two mutations in theFGFR3gene cause more than 99 percent of cases of achondroplasia, which is a form of short-limbed dwarfism. Both mutations lead to the same change in the FGFR3 protein. Specifically, the protein building block (amino acid) glycine is replaced with the amino acid arginine at protein position 380 (written as Gly380Arg or G380R). Researchers believe that this genetic change causes the receptor to be overly active, which leads to the disturbances in bone growth that occur in this disorder.
