RFK Center & GO Campaign: Build Schools in Mexico

As you may already know, for the past two years I have been dedicated to helping the RFK Center and GO Campaignraise money to build schools in the indigenous region of La Montana, Mexico. Last year, teachers, doctors, RFK Center activists, and several of my friends and I, laid the foundations for one school and built another. Currently we are building a third school and within the next year, plan to go back to build the fourth.However, we need the funds to do so.

This new fundraiser is not asking for a large check, but instead a touch of fashion J. If you’ve seen any teenagers lately, you have probably seen them wearing t-shirts that say “OBEY” on them, which those teenagers bought for well over the price I’m leading up to asking you to pay for a similar shirt. Our version of the shirt transcends the ubiquitous “OBEY.” Instead, it reads. “Disobey.”

The indigenous people of Mexico face many forms of oppression, which have thwarted them from the right to education for decades. Recently, as shown through the building of their schools, those people have proactively chosen not to allow those burdens to hinder them. They disobey and take-charge, and are finally getting the education that every people need to learn and progress.

I ask that you advocate noncompliance in times when conformity thwarts you. I ask that you voice your opinions, even in the face of adversity. More, I ask that you spread the word to do so, by modeling the shirt, gifting a few to others, and telling everyone you know to contribute. All of the proceeds of the shirts will go directly to teaching little kids, the first in their region to ever be taught. You’ll look hip, you’ll advocate change, and you’ll build a school, all for the measly $20 that you would have otherwise spent on drug store sunglasses.
