Ramsey's Reason

Ramsey was diagnosed with a MCAD Deficiency at three days old, via newborn screening. MCAD Deficiencyis a primary Fatty-acid Oxidization Disorder and a secondary Mitochondrial Disease. The MCAD causes Ramsey's cells to not be able to turn fats into energy for his body to use as energy.This cause him to have to eat frequently, have lower energy levels thana healthy personand also cause a lot of other health problems. Heat, fasting and infection can cause metabolic crisis.Illnessesrequires hospitalization to reverse orpreventmetabolic crisis. Ramsey was born in October 2010, since then he has been hospitalized 14 times due to illness or surgery. The frequent hospitalizations and appointments cause lost time from work for mom and sometimes dad. Those days are unpaid when medical leave runs out for the year. To look at Ramsey he seems like a happy 3 year old little boy. He attends Don Mills Achievement Center two days a week for therapy. He has a registered nurse that goes to and from with him in case he becomes ill. Ramsey loves to play cars with his older brother, Griffin. And to go to the races in the summer with the whole family.
