About this campaign
WHAT IS #MINDSMATTER? Each year, over 42,000 Americans die by suicide. Despite this statistic, we also know that for every death, 278 people manage to move past those thoughts. The work our organization does within our community is a critical piece of the life-saving public health safety net for those in crisis. The PRS #MindsMatter campaign is a social media initiative designed to encourage our followers (you!) to speak up about suicide prevention and
mental health. Let’s all work together to break the stigma!
How Can I Join?
Take the Pledge!-Our #MindsMatter pledge outlines activities that you and your friends commit to participating in to make a difference and spread awareness during National Suicide Prevention Week (NSPW).
Pledge activities inude:
· Buy a #MindsMatter T-Shirt through our Booster Campaign – and be a conversation starter!
· Take a selfie in your #MindsMatter t-shirt showing support of NSPW for PRS to share on social media. Show that you are willing to talk about these issues openly, without stigma.
· Walk with us in the Americanoundation for Suicide Prevention Community Walks and/or the NAMIWalks Northern Virginia Walk in September 2016

those facing life crises. As one of PRS’
core programs, PRS
CrisisLink brings immediate help, hope and healing to empower
individuals facing serious life challenges, suicidal thoughts, emotional or
situational problems. During the 2015 fiscal year, PRS CrisisLink handled over
34,000 crisis calls and 5,600 crisis text conversations from the Northern
Virginia region.
