About this campaign
Welcome the new E.T. Walrus sculpture to the front gates of Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium by purchasing a t-shirt or sweatshirt today. This new E.T. Walrus sculpture, created by local artist Matthew Gray Palmer, will provide a hands-on engagement opportunity for all visitors and staff who will be able to “high five” him before they enter Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Funds raised through this campaign will support the Dr. Holly Reed Wildlife Conservation Fund.
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium has been committed to conservation for more than a century. Their passion for endangered wildlife drives them to protect threated species and their habitats, from the jungles of Borneo to the waters of Western Washington. Supporting the Dr. Holly Reed Wildlife Conservation Fund will expand the Zoo’s conservation footprint at home and abroad through support of Zoo-based clinical and lab science research, citizen science initiatives and field based conservation.
E.T. was a beloved member of the South Sound Community who delighted and inspired for over three decades. In bronze form, E.T. continues to deliver that signature welcoming wave, reminding us all that a day at the Zoo inspires everyone to care about and work together to protect Arctic wildlife threated by global climate change.

Walruses are flagship animals at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium engaging visitors in conservation action, fostering caring attitudes toward wildlife, and demonstrating our commitment to caring for animals at the Zoo and in the wild.
