This t-shirt represents well over 500 children that have a debilitating autoimmune condition. PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Step) and PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) are conditions in which the immune system does not respond properly to bacteria, viruses, allergens and other immune triggers. The autoimmune response of causes antibodies to mistakenly attack the brain causing inflammation in the basal ganglia. That inflammation leads to an onset of symptoms that can vary in severity. Symptoms can include obsessions, compulsions, anxiety, vocal and motor tics, abnormal movements, decline in math skills, processing skills, dramatic change in handwriting ability, irrational fears, insomnia, urinary frequency, personality changes, sensory issues, aggression and food avoidance. Symptoms can often come on suddenly and can be debilitating. Symptoms of PANDAS/PANS are very often misdiagnosed for other conditions such as OCD, ADHD, Tourettes Syndrome, movement disorders and behavioral disorders, therefore leading to inappropriate treatment.

My son was diagnosed with PANDAS in 2012. His diagnosis came after 9 years of misdiagnosis and frustration. We finally had answers! Since that time I have dedicated myself as an advocate with the purpose of raising awareness and helping families living with this condition. Navigating a PANDAS/PANS diagnosis can be frustrating and difficult. It can be a challenge to find physicians that are knowledgeable of this condition and treatment options can often be very costly and often not covered by insurance. By purchasing this shirt you can join me in being a voice for an illness that need to be heard! Proceeds from this booster will benefit organizations that are dedicated to helping kids and families struggling with PANDAS/PANS.I have chosen to support PAS Cares and Empowered Hands for PANS with this fundraiser. My goal ofcreating the t-shirts was initially just to get t-shirts out there to raise awareness. It started as a small effort with just a t-shirt for our local stair climb event. I wanted to show support forall of the kids suffering and asked for names and states to include on the back of the shirts. Next thing I knew I had over300 names and everyone wanted one!I was usingCustom Ink for my shirts and theytold me about their sister company,booster, that would handle orders and it would raise funds as well.Since my goal was never to raise funds, they allowed me to set the price as low as possibleand next thing you know over 1500 shirts were purchased and were sent to over10 countries!All proceeds benefited various PANDAS/PANS related organizations. Put of that fundraiser came the IL non-profit group PAS Cares. What a great thing to raise awareness and have the funds go right back to our community of families. This year there are a few options including sweat shirts added. booster has also offered to handle international shipping, last year I had to handle all international shipping on my own! Thank you to the families who shared their child's name(s) and to everyone who is ordering a shirt to show support.
