Outlandia was founded in November 2013, and quickly grew to over 400 members. Shortly after our founding, we decided to make public service an important aspect of our community. We designated Clay Street Table as our charity, in part because we loved the mission, and in part because Diana's daughter, a Portlander, was involved with the organization.
In 2016 alone, Clay Street provided over 125,000 meals of food and groceries to Portland's most vulnerable citizens. We love Clay Street because they value dignity, and treat everyone in ways that are affirming, respectful, nonjudgmental and supportive. Outlandia itself has raised over $30,000 for Clay Street Table, including through a remarkable event in August 2015, featuring Diana. (To put that in perspective, Clay Street's annual budget is around $36,000.) In addition, Outlandia's members have committed significant free time to preparing and serving meals, once every two months. We wear these t-shirts when we volunteer with Clay Street, and the hashtag originates from our event with Diana.
