About this campaign
This is a companion fundraiser to our original on CrowdRise. We have raised $500 so far toward the purchase of the splints and braces, but really need to fill the gap for the cost of a wheelchair, a minimum of around $2000. We felt offering t-shirts with Liz's incredible mantra could be the extra boost needed to reach our goal. Our oldest daughter has been diagnosed with EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) which is an inherited connective tissue disorder. In addition, she also has gastroparesis and has been fitted with a feeding tube so that she can get nourishment to try to maintain her overall health. All the while, she takes care of her toddler son.
Liz has been very take-charge in her health management, but has now run into the wall of needs insurance will not pay for. As things are, Liz cannot leave the house without assistance and definitely needing help with her toddler. Her quality of life is deteriorating due to being housebound, fatigued, in constant pain, and more than a little situationally depressed.
Braces and a wheelchair are needed to help her gain independence and mobility and be able to interact with her son and the world with less difficulty. Liz needs 8 swan neck splints and one buddy splint, a custom fit hinged knee brace, and a custom fit sacroiliac support brace to keep her pelvis aligned.
Liz is a very tiny person and the wheelchair would need to be a custom fit ultra-light rigid manual chair with power assist wheels. These are items just out of reach financially and not available through her medical coverage. Please help a Mom get on her way to a more productive and fulfilling life.
