About this campaign

Speed Skydiving, as the name suggests is all about one thing, vertical speed. In a typical speed run the skydiver exits the air plane between 13,500-12,000 feet and accelerates as quickly as possible to an "entry gate". The entry gate, set an altitude of approximately 8,800 feet, is where the measurement of the speed run begins. After hitting the "entry gate" the skydiver attempts to maintain acceleration through the "exit gate" which is set at an altitude of approximately 5,500 feet. The skydivers vertical speed is then calculated as an average between the entry and exit gates.

Normal vertical speeds for a skydive varies by body position. In a horizontal or belly to earth position average speeds are roughly 120 MPH. A vertical body position, a head down or feet down position is roughly 180 MPH. In Speed Skydiving we regularly see speeds of over 300 MPH. Currently the world record for speed skydiving is 373.6 mph.

The Story.
As most of you know, I started skydiving in 2003. After a few years of a hiatus from the sport, I finally reached the goal of becoming licensed skydiver back in 2011 and have been loving the spot ever since. A few years ago my passion for the sport led to me to compete in the discipline of Speed Skydiving, the fastest non-powered sport in the world.

In 2015 the United States Parachute Association held the first speed skydiving national competition at Skydive Arizona where I took the silver medal and earned a spot on the USPA National Team. Last year I competed at the World Championships at Skydive Chicago, and I will represent the USA again this year at the World Cup of Speed Skydiving in Saarlouis, Germany.

The Costs.
Speed skydiving is a very mentally taxing sport. It also happens quite taxing on the wallet as well. The devices used to measure your speed for training cost several hundred dollars and you need multiple devices. Training jumps, while discounted (thanks Skydive Spaceland Dallas!!!!) still add up very quickly. This is before we even consider competition costs. Registration for the World Cup and the USPA nationals will probably be over $1500 alone this year, which brings to this fundraising campaign.

The Deal.
To offset this costs I've decided to do a fundraiser selling t-shirts. I figured this would be a good way to not only offset some of the costs, but also spread the word about this amazing sport while giving you all something for the effort!
