What is Ruby On Sails?

The Ruby On Sails event is a kickoff event to the RubyConf 2013 conference. Ruby On Sails is chartering 10 sailboats and crews to sail the day before (November 7th, 2013) RubyConf begins. This is a unique event where developers from all over can gather in a setting that fosters the building of friendships in a small setting. Most conference events tend to involve a loud nightclub setting that precludes those developers who don't drink, are underage, or do not wish to shout at each other to be heard. This is one of the things that sets Ruby On Sails apart from other conference events. It will definitely be one of the most talked about events surrounding RubyConf.

Why are you selling T-Shirts as a fundraiser?

I expected a higher turnout of sponsors for the event. As the October 15 deadline for print materials approaches, I am still 2 sailboat sponsors short. To that end, the event is already funded and will still go on. I took out a loan when planning the event both to assume the risk and to assure sponsors that the event would occur.

The lack of the remaining sponsors was a risk and responsibility I took on and fully accept. However, as a supplement to the sponsorships, I am asking that you purchase a Ruby On Sails T-Shirt for the event to help raise the remaining funds and lower the remaining $3600 of debt I have to this event.

If the funds do go over the amount of debt, additional funds will be added to the $1000 donation I have promised to Rails Girls South Florida.
