Lieutenant Colonel Manuel “Manny” Rios, USAF/DCANG retired, was unexpectedly diagnosed last year with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Initial rounds of chemotherapy were unsuccessful; however, immunotherapy seemed to slow the progression of the disease until recently when these treatments became ineffective. At 55, he and his wife Iny have raised their family, moved from Puerto Rico to Maryland and transitioned from military to civilian life. Manny is a devoted husband and father who has dedicated his entire adult life to the service of this country. As a military officer, Manny began his career in the Puerto Rico guard, flying UH-1s and C-12s before transitioning to the District of Columbia Air National Guard in 1990 where he flew the C-21, C-22, C-38 and was the pyramid evaluator in the C-40 when he retired. Manny’s time in the DCANG was spent leading missions around the globe enabling civilian leaders to conduct the highest levels of international diplomacy, while mentoring the next generation to continue the legacy. Following his retirement, Manny held contractor and government civilian positions at the Federal Aviation Agency which enabled him to continue to shape the world of aviation. Through real policy and personal interaction as a designated examiner, Manny’s impact to the aviation community will be felt by generations of pilots who have never met him.

Throughout this journey, Manny has been surrounded by friends, colleagues and his family who have been with and supported him in every way. Manny was also able to reconnect with family in Puerto Rico and share the experiences of his youth with his daughters during a trip to the island. Through all the challenges, small victories and setbacks, Manny’s fighting spirit and faith has kept those closest to him strong.

Please join the Check-6 Foundation and show your support as “Manny’s Wingman” as he and his family prepare for one last westward crossing. 100% of all funds raised will go to Manny and his family.

The Check-6 Foundation is a 501(C)3 non-profit and donations are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations. Please help share this campaign and “LIKE” us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/check6foundation.
