With your help, I will be
going back to the Dominican Republic to serve the families of La Mosca for the
4th time. La Mosca means “The Fly” and is
a squatter community next to a trash dump outside of Santiago. Many families
survive on less than two dollars a day, and for many, picking through trash is their
main source of income. The community is plagued by disease, addiction, crime,
illiteracy, and malnutrition.
Since 2007 REUNION has supported a
local Pastor and his work. Because of
our partnership with Pastor Luis and his family they are able to serve food to 100+
hungry kids six days a week, provide medical care, and seek out and meet the
needs of those in his community. At the medical clinic last summer the team
doctor and nurses celebrated that the overall health of the community is
finally showing noticeable improvements.
But wait, I’m not a doctor? True, but we also are there physically building housing,
churches, medical clinics, feeding centers and even fixing up roads. And if you watch the video from the last time
I was there, you will see above all we are building relationships. That is why I keep going back. I do love construction [I am a bit of a nerd],
but even more I love playing with the neighborhood kids! They need food, hugs, and a little horsing
around to show them people do care about them.
I can’t help but think of my own daughters and how blessed we are to
have our basic needs met and how difficult it must be for the families of La
Mosca.
Please join me on this journey and spread the word! Check outhttp://reunioninthedr.com/ for more information about the trip.
Update: I am humbled by the questions I have had about additional
giving to my trip. Yes, you can and it is very much appreciated. Clink
on the this LINK and it will go directly to my trip. Thank you for your support!
