Why are we celebrating International Babywearing Week?

Babywearing International, the host of international babywearing week, is a wonderful educational resource for families just starting or already involved in their babywearing journey. BWI provides lending libraries, education and support across the nation. We are proud to celebrate babywearing this week as we educate families on the benefits of babywearing children with special needs.

What is Lift Me Up
Lift Me Up is a non-profit program dedicated to providing ergonomic babywearing carriers to families who have children with special needs. Babywearing is a unique therapeutic tool that can benefit both the child and the caregiver. Our goal is to offer this tool to as many qualified families as possible, thereby spreading the gift of babywearing to new places. Who is behind Lift Me Up
Lift Me Up was created by three mamas who wish to share with others the overall benefits and practicality that babywearing provides. Sarahfell in love with the health benefits of babywearing as a pediatric physical thapist. Kristinneeded babywearing as a support for survival being a mom to four small children, two of which were immobile at the same time. Rachelembraced babywearing as a special way to bond with her son and make everyday life with small children less physically challenging. Collectively we have 9 little boys, a passion for babywearing, and love for children with special needs.

Where does my donation go
This small organization is entirely volunteer driven and made possible by donations from the community and babywearing businesses. Lift Me Up, Inc is an established 501(c)3 non-profit organization.


What is this babywearing thing all about??
Babywearing is holding or carrying a baby/young child using a cloth baby carrier.”¹ At the very basic level, babywearing has the potential to fulfill a child’s need for touch. Meeting this need allows the child to actively take on stressful challenges with greater ease, as often occurs for children with special needs. Lift Me Up provides correct physical alignment of the hip and spine for optimal development. It improves vestibular system activation and body awareness due to continual motion of the caregiver. It allows for positioning free of pressure on the soft cranium. Babywearing is helpful in promoting general wellness by allowing the child to be in an upright position with improved respiration. Moreover, babywearing allows children with decreased immunity to remain within the caregiver’s personal space and away from harmful germs. Lastly, babywearing offers appropriate positioning for socialization and learning communicative cues.

Who does Lift Me Up serve
Any family who has a child with a developmental special need, who does not already own an ergonomically correct babywearing carrier, may apply to our #BabywearToThrive program. The child to be worn does not have to be the child with special needs. We have served over 500 families across the United States and Canada!
