About this campaign

Liam was born at 38 weeks with AV Canal Defect and will have to undergo open heart surgery within months of his life. He is now in NICU and we are all staying strong.

Liam's Story At 36 weeks and 3 days Heather went to her scheduled doctors appt. Excited to see her sweet boy as usual. During the ultrasound she was given news that Liam's heart beat was off. Not news a parent wants to hear. The doctor scheduled an appointment for her to see specialist next day. That will make any parent concerned. The news was more heart breaking then we thought it would be as the specialist told her Liam hasAtrioventricular Canal Defect. He went over the details with her and then said Liam would need open heart surgery within 4 months of his life. They would continue to monitor him during her pregnancy and keep track of his precious heart. We cried for days and prayed so hard that Liam would be ok! More bad news came when Heather’s insurance changed. Heathers policy no longer covered St. Francis and she was told she could not deliver there. That was not even an option especially with surgery. The doctors continued to battle with insurance company. Then insurance company said she could deliver at Hillcrest and Liam could be transferred to The Children's Hopsital. Again not an option for Momma and Liam. What Momma is going to have to stay at one hospital while her baby is at another? It is still being appealed at this time. In the meantime she continued to see Dr. Rapp and the specialist Dr. Jones. She had an appointment set up to meet with NICU doctor and get prepared as much as possible. She was set to be induced onMarch 16th... Instead she decided to go into labor early. :) Liam was born on March 11th at 12:07 and rushed to NICU only giving Momma about a second with him. Dad followed him to NICU and got all the updates. He needs to be a little stronger and get to 11 pounds before they can do surgery, but surgery must be done before 4 months of age. Each day he does a little better. He is now up to 30ml of breast milk and his oxygen has been turned down. He is a rock star and he's got this!We ask for continued prayers on him and we will let everyone know as soon as surgery is scheduled. At this time they still haven’t gotten to hold baby and we are hoping that day will come soon. Daddy has to go back to work while Momma gets to stare at Liam all day. I’m sure Momma is the lucky one! Heather will be off work for some time and insurance is still up in the air at this time.We would love to help them out with anything we can. We would love everyone to wear the shirts on surgery date!
