Have you ever had one of those moments when you know you are doing right what God has destined you to do? This fundraiser has become just that.
As you know in 2011, our son Ian was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect that would require surgery. As a family we decided to go home to Ohio to have the surgery performed at Nationwide Children's Hospital. It is one of the leading pediatric heart care centers in the U.S. While there, our friends, families, and complete strangers rallied around us and were such huge blessings to us. Several friends from church would bring Andy and I meals everyday and our families kept big sister healthy, happy, and maybe a smidge spoiled! One of the evenings we spent in the hospital we were told that a local foundation was catering a meal for all the families on the cardiac floor. We went down to enjoy an amazing meal and I noticed that "the mom" of the foundation was there watching as everyone came in and enjoyed her labor of love. Upon leaving, we were handed a small package. In it was a gift card to Target. I was so touched. It was near Christmas and with all of the traveling and eating out, it was just so sweet to think that there was some carefree holiday shopping in the future. They definitely left a mark in my heart!As we went home and began our journey to recovery I sat down to write Thank You notes and then I read more about the Lauren Faith Miller Foundation. Sweet Lauren lost her battle with a CHD when she was just three years old. (Which my Ian just turned this year-coincidence, I don't think so!) My heart went immediately to "the mom" sitting there watching all of those families on some milestone of the journey she had already walked. I knew that at some point, if able, I would like to repay her blessings to so many!
After we chose The Lauren Faith Miller Foundation for our Awareness campaign this year I had the pleasure of talking with Stephanie, "the mom". What a sweet heart, and come to find out she and I have mutual friends! God is so amazing. She grew up in the next farm community, South Vienna, and graduated from Northeastern High School, with a cousin of mine no less. God works in mysterious ways and I am so excited to pour out some blessings on Stephanie and the Foundation in memory of her sweet girl, Lauren Faith.
