Celebrities for Lady's Secret fundraiser

"Friends of the Lady’s Secret Memorial Garden" / "Celebrities for Lady's Secret" Lady’s Secret (1982 – 2003) Funds are being raised to preserve and maintain the final resting place of Secretariat's greatest daughter and Horse of the Year, Lady's Secret, and to finish The Lady’s Secret Memorial Garden as a tribute her. Most warming of all is the story of the latter years of Lady’s Secret life. In May of 2001, her then owners, John and Kim Glenney, moved Lady’s Secret and her companion, Superbe Dawn, from Kentucky to California, believing the milder winters would benefit her. Lady’s Secret and Superbe Dawn had their own pasture next to a majestic mature oak tree. This pasture is now known as The Lady’s Secret Pasture. Lady’s Secret died suddenly on March 4, 2003 after foaling a healthy colt. She was 21. Her best friend and companion, Superbe Dawn raised Lady’s Secret newborn colt as her own. The “Iron Lady” is buried under that majestic oak tree in the pasture where she romped each day with her friend, Superbe Dawn. Adjacent to The Lady’s Secret Pasture is The Lady’s Secret Memorial Garden. The Lady's Secret memorial Garden was started, but funds are needed to finish the project. We, as a group have many goals ahead of us. Our long term plans include making her resting place a historical landmark and opening it up to the public, holding events to honor her birthday like they do with Secretariat. We also would like to have a Lady's Secret Day at local tracks and attract fans from all over to join us in events that memorialize this champion racehorse and daughter of Secretariat. In the future, we will like to reinstate her stakes name without affecting any of the others. This racehorse raced 45 times, and won more than half of her races. She was in the money almost 84% of the time. We owe her a beautiful memorial. Lady's Secret won 12 grade one races including the 1986 Whitney against the boys and the Breeders' Cup Distaff that same year. Also, in 1986, the daughter of Secretariat was named the Champion Older Mare and Horse of the Year. She also joined the Racing Hall of Fame in 1992. Our hopes are to do Lady's Secret justice and provide her with a proper burial and grave stone marker, statue, donation wall and path, but also to finish the beautiful memorial garden that was started for her. We have many big plans for making this garden unique and beautiful like Lady's Secret was in life, and want to keep her memory alive for years to come. We will have this memorial garden open to the public and made as a historical landmark. With donations, we know we will be able to finish these projects and do her justice.
