About this campaign

Let's wake up our communities to kidney awareness so people like us can help one another. Do the research to know more about it. Keep in touch with us we can so we can build confidence to face this disease. Some of us are new to this. We need strength and encouragement from you to keep going to dialysis, eating healthy and exercising. Together, we can fight this disease and overcome it. And remember, 'The More You Know.'

My story began last year. Although I never had my kidneys checked, I knew something was wrong. Just out of nowhere, I would have very bad pain. Last year, 2013, I was admitted to the hospital for a foot infection that was so bad, the ER doctor ran in my room and said your body carries some white cells, but in my body were 42,000! I was admitted to the hospial. I drifted in and out just enough to hear the doctor say something about surgery. I assumed it was for my foot, but next thing I woke up to my body looking like a blimp. Anyway, they rushed me into surgery again. When I woke up, there were there were tubes coming out of my chest. Weird, I thought. I asked the nurse what was going on. She said they were for dialysis.Wait a minute, I was sent to the hospital for a foot infection and what the heck was dialysis, and when the nurse told me, I said I knew nothing about kidney disease or dialysis and the machines sounded like they were used for chemo patients. Anyhow, They tried to release me to some nusing home. But I was scared because my mom died in one, so I ducked out of the hospital and came home. But it still hadn't registered. I had people coming in and out of my home: physical and occupational therapy, nurses, managers, caregivers because I spent a month in the hospital lying on my back, and I had no strength. Plus, I stopped breathing there, so I had a steady stream of traffic, and I had dialysis to go to. I finally told them after awhile to stop coming especially I had dialysis. Today, I sit here writing my story and asking if you join me in bringing awareness to kidney disease. I am trying to raise awareness so that others (God forbid) can know how to cope. We can fight this. Inform others regarding this disease so they are aware of what we go through. Partner up with fellow kidney diease people. Sometimes a kind word helps through the day.  Research online, in libraries, speaking to your doctor regarding this disease and what steps to take. My mind is still in a whirwind about this disease. I always thought the elderly got this. I had know idea what this could do to your body and going to dialysis. I am selling t-shirts at: http://www.booster.com/kidney-failure. Buy one and when someone asks you about the disease, tell them. Perhaps we can shake the world by finding a better cure for us.
