Kathryn's Lyme Disease Awareness Campaign

As most of you are well aware, I have been battling Neurologic Lyme disease for the past 7 years. 

MAY is Lyme Disease Awareness Month

To support the Lyme Disease Association in their quest to finding a cure to end all the madness that is this horrible disease I am selling Lyme disease t-shirts for $20 each and 100% of the proceeds will go to the LDA for research.

This is a debilitating and crippling disease that affects more than 300,000 people a year (not counting those that go un-reported to the CDC) and it will be with you for life. If you are lucky enough to catch the "bullseye" rash, then you will most likely be okay within 30 days of treatment. If you aren't so lucky, like myself, you could go weeks, months or even years before symptoms emerge and by then its probably hit its second or third stage. 

It took about 15 different types of specialists to mis-diagnose me with everything in the book. I was told I was crazy, looking for attention, needed to see a therapist, a hypochondriac- the list goes on and on. I was even treated for a tumor in my thyroid ( that I never had to begin with). Thankfully a cardiologist heard my story and suggested I be tested for Lyme disease. Sure enough- we had a match. Knowing I had an answer gave me hope and finding a doctor who believed me, didn't think I was crazy and could treat me was truly a God-send. 

Imagine thinking "maybe this is all in my head.. maybe I am crazy?" all while you can hardly walk a straight line, your whole body hurts, you can't remember anything let alone focus on something, all of your senses are off the charts, it feels like the first layer of skin is moving, you feel like you're walking in jell-o all day and everything makes you anxious. 

Those were just some of my symptoms.

Lyme affects everyone differently and mimics over 300 other diseases. I've known people who have literally forgotten how to speak, had paralysis, cardiac problems and other severe issues that have resulted in permanent brain/heart damage or even death.

Also- There are many support groups to help cope whether you or someone you know has Lyme- all are welcome to join, ask questions and hear others stories. If you have any questions for me please don't hesitate to ask.
