ODP has been doing shows for almost 30 years. With the economic downturn in northern Michigan, we've lost sponsors and hours of work at the day job, so we are asking for a little help from our friends. Help uskeep the production costs down and get a cool shirt at the same time as our thanks to you!
Obscurrus Diem Productions (ODP, OD Productions) has been putting on all age concert events, charity fundraisers, and community events for almost 3 decades. For the past 5 years we have been based in Kalkaska, Michigan, a small village centrally located in northern Michigan where there isn't much to do for the area youth, and any grouping of more than 2 kids is generally looked upon as "trouble waiting to happen". The tempation of drugs and alcohol are everywhere, along with peer pressure and bullying. The shows changed all that here. By giving these kids the opportunity to spend time "up close and personal" with their favorite local, regional, and national bands, in a safe, supervised environment, without the influence of smoking, drugs, alcohol, drama, violence, and bullying, the Kalkaska scene has become a FAMILY, where all are treated as equals and they can enjoy live music and being themselves without judgement for 5 hours at least once a month. The kids live and breathe music here. We rent the venues, a full P.A., lights, build a stage, promote, and present these shows as a civic activity, but as the economy downturned, sponsors and coverage money dried up, leaving the door fee (typically $5-$10) and our day job checks to cover the overhead. The shows are designed to break even, pay for themselves. Any "profit" after payout to the bands, venue, and service providers is put towards the next show. Reduced work hours combined with circumstances beyond our control have left us with no safety net, and with a balance owed to those who provide us with services that allow us to mount theses shows. This fundraiser is to help us cover that balance quickly, and allow us to secure a few pieces of gear that would allow us to reduce our overhead at least 25%, thereby insuring the shows can continue. These kids love the opportunity to see no less than a half a dozen bands per show, at a price they can afford, close to home, instead of trying to find a ride to see half as many bands, for 3-5 times as much, 4-5 hours away. Please support our LIVING music scene and support LIVE music and clean living in northern Michigan. Thanks for your support!
