Back on February 11th, John had become sick. He was brought to the ER, where the physicians thought he had had a stroke, So He was sent to OKC. After an extensive period, we finally learned he did not have a stroke But that He had an infection that a spread to his brain, Encephalitis, which is inflammation to the brain. He was unable to talk, eat or swallow any foods or liquids, he became weak, and loosing weight. He was put on antibiotics, anti fungal meds, and a steroid to help the inflammation to his brain. He had been thru many different tests, after a month of being in a hospital, catching pneumonia twice, he started showing signs of improvement . He started talking to us, regaining some of his strength. Once John was stable and his doctors thought he was ready, He then went to an Impatient Rehabilitation Center that would help him with his balance and stability, and help with his speech and get him back to eating and drinking again. He had done so well in the rehab, that after a week, they decided he was ready to go home. John would need outpatient therapy for his speech and to get regular check ups but that he was recovering nicely. It was when he came home, that after just 5 days, he had regressed to not talking, having a hard time swallowing, becoming weak again. After a visit to his Primary Care physician, we were told to bring John back to the Hospital. They feared John was having seizures. And after a few days they confirmed he was having seizure like activity. They admitted John to the Neuroscience floor and began the process of figuring out the cause to why this was happening. After a week, we were told John had Post Infections Inflammatory, which is the reaction the brain can have from the Encephalitis. He was put on anti seizure medication, they put him on an antibiotic, he was on a steroid to help his lungs, so he wouldn't catch pneumonia. John has been in the hospital for over a month, they have done everything they can for John. The Next step for him is a Skilled Nursing Facility and Rehabilitation. April 15th John was sent to Houston, TX. There is a facility there, that is top rated with an extensive standard that will help John in his route to recovery. With John's determination and willpower, as well as the support of friends and family, he will keep fighting to recover!
