About this campaign

The James David Smith, Jr. Endowment will support pediatric cancer patients at Morristown Memorial Hospital.  The endowment will last in perpetuity and will afford financial assistance to children battling cancer.  While the financial support is critical to the continued care for these children, the assistance will also instill in them the hope for life that was so inspiring while Jimmy battled cancer.

Dove c'e' vita c'e' speranza- Where there is life there is hope.
This was the motto James David Smith, Jr. lived by. Despite living a healthy and active lifestyle, Jimmy, as he is known by family and friends, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer at the age of 42.  For the next three years, he endured extensive and invasive treatment, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.  Throughout the process, his will to live remained strong and his outlook on life remained positive.  Jimmy was a lover of the arts, he enjoyed theater, movies, photography and travel.  Jimmy loved his family deeply, especially his nieces.  A practical joker, Jimmy loved a good laugh. He had a contagious smile and a great sense of humor. All of these qualities made Jimmy special but what made him inspiring was his concern for others.  While receiving treatment and going through his own battle, he was always more concerned with the well-being of others. There was never a time when visiting him that the conversation was centered on his health. He would always ask how you were doing, he would always comment on the patients in the cancer ward who he felt were less fortunate than him and he would always go out of his way to make his friends and family feel loved.  Motivated by his love for life and concern for others, his family started the James David Smith, Jr. Endowment to support pediatric cancer patients at Morristown Memorial Hospital. By purchasing a t-shirt, your donation will make a difference in the lives of children with cancer while also honoring a man who had a great respect and love for life.
