About this campaign

The "I Grew Up In Fairfield Too" Facebook Group Superhero Team is again participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Fairfield. You can help us finish the fight against cancer by buying a t-shirt! Or two! Our Relay for Life team will get a portion of the profits!

Relay for Life is a 24-hour event where teams ofvolunteers raise money beforehand and also on the day of the event. On-site fundraisers include items and services for sale, games, prizes and more. There is live music, food and plenty of awesome people from the community. Yes, there is a track and yes, we walk, but it isn’t like a race or a track meet.It is hard to describe the transforming, wild, fun and poignant nature of the events.

Relay for Life reflects 24 hours in the life of a cancer patient. The light and darkness of the day and night parallel the physical and emotional effects and the mental state of a cancer patient undergoing treatment. When the sun is setting, it symbolizes when someone is diagnosed. The darkening day represents their fearful state of mind. As the evening goes on, it gets colder and darker, just as the emotions of the cancer patient does. The wee hours of the morning represents thestart of treatment. They become exhausted, sick, and possibly want to give up. Relayers feel similar emotions about walking all day, but don’t stop or give up. The sun rising represents the end of treatment and the light at the end of the tunnel. The morning light brings on a new day full of life and excitement for new beginnings. There is no finish line until we find the cure.
