Help CHUM Therapeutic Riding reach more kids and adults with disabilities through horses.

CHUM, which stands for Children and Horses United in Movement, was founded in 1999 and is located on 36 acres that includes an older outdoor arena, trails (weather permitting), and an indoor arena heated by the generosity of donations of wood! We have been blessed these past 10 years with the indoor arena, making it possible to help our clients throughout the year in Michigan. We have been using the bathroom at the home located about 150 yards away from the arena, a good hike regardless of the physical challenge you face in good weather, let alone snow, ice, rain, mud etc and throw in the use of any devices like a wheelchair or crutches and it becomes more difficult. Additionally, the horses stand at a tie post awaiting class or in the horse trailer if the weather is bad between classes. We have many class groups come out but have no area that can be a classroom and if someone wants to take advantage of another service like speech or massage etc there is no treatment room to offer privacy. It is time to extend the arena out to build a bathroom, a classroom/treatment room, and 5 stalls for horses awaiting their turn to help a rider over another obstacle to a new victory. We have been given a $60,000 matching grant and this is one of several ways we are raising the matching funds and awareness to this project and our program!
