How can you not support an ACO who does Sonic runs for his dogs??? Second only to a loving home, thrown-away, forgotten, and lost animals want to find themselves in the City of Gurdon Animal Shelter because of Ty Oppelt. It doesn't take someone long to realize how much Ty goes above and beyond to help the dogs in his care. Through constant fund-raising and networking, he has been able to save many animals in this small southwestern Arkansas town of less than 2,500. In a small rural town, there is no way a municipal shelter can keep up with the demands of the ever-growing pet population in the town. The city provides NO money for the dog's medical care.Every time Ty is able to raise donations to help with medical issues, a dog with more serious issues will come in and the funding is gone. Fundraising is the only way dogs with everything from heartworms to broken legs, to spinal injuries have gone on to live wonderful lives. In a perfect world, we would raise enough for Ty to be able to have a program to supplement funding for spaying and neutering in the town too.
The fundraiser is in honor of Ty's dog Ellie Mae. She was the shelter's ambassador for years gaining attention due to her unusual appearance. Ellie Mae stole a lot of hearts, especially when she competed in the Ugliest Dog Contest. Now we want Ellie Mae to be remembered for saving hearts, which is why she is fore-front and center on our shirt. Every penny raised in this campaign will go towards the heartworm treatment of dogs in the Gurdon Animal Shelter. We hope to raise enough to not only cover Barclay and Gene Autry but keep a reserve budget "dog-eared" for heartworm treatments.
