Together We Fight

Danika began playing softball 12 years ago a the ripe old age of 4. She fell in love with the game and continued to play throughout the years in recreational and select ball. She has literally played every position on the field but at 13 decided she wanted to excel as a pitcher. She played her Freshman year at her high school but soon started developing pain in her right hand. (she is right handed) The pain got progressively worse and in 2013 she had surgery to correct what was thought to be a tendon problem. Following the surgery, the pain continued to get worse to the point of her losing most of her range of motion in the hand. In February, 2015 we saw another doctor who performed an MRI and found a mass in her hand. After surgery to remove the mass, it was discovered to be a Synovial Sarcoma, a very rare form of cancer. She has been at MD Anderson in Houston since March 13th undergoing radiation treatments. Her prognosis is very good right now and her treatments will end on May 5th. Since she has missed most of her Junior year of softball, she is looking forward to a very successful Senior year next year.
