About this campaign

The Cherokee humane Society needs funds to help cover vetting, food and supplies. Cherokee Humane Society rescues animals from various high kill shelters in Georgia, and without your help we won’t be able to. These animals deserve a second chance; a lot of them are moms with newborn puppies or sick animals that need proper care and vetting. Please help us by purchasing an itemto help us reach our goal of $2000.00 All profits and donations will go directly to the animals.

The Cherokee County Humane Society (CCHS), a local non-profit organization (501C3) that helps to SA(2)VE animals. For over 30 years, CCHS has worked closely with our community, local vets, the county shelter, and those who love their pets to improve the well-being of the thousands of animals turned into county shelter, abandoned, and dumped. Recent numbers from the Cherokee County Animal Shelter, a government managed euthanasia facility, show there were over 6,000 animals turned into the Cherokee County Animal shelter in one year. This averages about 500 animals per month or 115 per week. Few are claimed, some are rescued by Humane Societies, but most are destroyed. Our mission is to SA(2)VE – Save, Alter, Adopt, Vaccinate and Educate. Last year, through your help and support, we were able to:
- Save over 800 animals
- Spay/Neuter in excess of 1,500
- Adopt over 800 animals
- Vaccinate over 1,000 animals
- Educate thousands of children and pet owners about animal welfare. To fund this mission back in 2005, we began a Thrift Store. Now located at 5900 Bells Ferry Road, Acworth, our little store serves the community in many different ways including fostering unwanted cats and kittens in our “Cat Rooms” until they find permanent homes. Our program services benefit both our animal and human friends and many are managed from the store, including:
- S.N.A.P.- Spay and Neuter Assistance Program for cats
- Shot clinics for necessary vaccinations
- C.A.R.E. -
- Foster Care- Providing temporary homes for both cats and dogs that may otherwise be euthanized. - Pet Adoptions – Adopting rescued dogs from local shelters on Saturdays at PetSmart in Woodstock, GA and on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at the PetSmart on Barrett Parkway. Placement of cats and kittens at Pet (NAMES OF OTHER ADOPTION LOCATIONS) - Medical Services – Supporting indigent pet owners and low-income elderly with animal emergencies and pet medical care. - Loving Heart Traps- Set up humane traps to capture feral cats for neutering. After the procedure the cats are returned to their environment to live out their lives without reproducing. The Cherokee County Humane Society operates strictly on membeships, donations from caring individuals, and revenue from our Thrift Store. Unlike the shelter, we are not supported by government funds, i.e., your taxes nor by any other animal charities like the Humane Society of United States (HSUS) which does nothing for local humane societies.
