About this campaign

Opening July of 2015 The Carmel Puppetry Institute will be based at the Golden Bough Theater, working in collaborationand under the umbrellaof Pacific Repertory Theater. CPI's mission is to integrate puppetry into the lives of the Monterey County community, adding a new facet to the local theater and performing arts scene.

The Carmel Puppetry Institute plans an importanteducational component, and is already working with S.O.D.A. (school of dramatic arts) to offerpuppetry classes and summer camps, and is offering scholarships for underprivileged or economically disadvantaged children from through-out Monterey County. The Institutewill also be bringingpuppetry and special effects workshops to under served school theater programsin the Central Coast region

The
Institute willoffera wide range of styles and artists
from the international world of puppetry. With income provided by
ticket sales, Crowd-funding, grantsand special events, funds
will be raised to bring in artists from around the world, giving
theatre-goers a chance to see the beauty and artistry of this
diverse art form.

The Carmel Puppetry Institute'sinaugural production will be at the Golden Bough Theater, July 9 -19, with “Dr. Mecurio's Mythical Marvels and Beastiry” a newfamily friendly, Steampunk adventure by Vincent,with full-size dragon puppets and shadow-puppet air battles utilizing the Golden Bough's new digital projection system. Funds from this Booster will go to offset production costs for a benefit performance and to send at least 10 kids to a summer puppetry arts camp, and profitsfrom the production will beused as matching funds for art grants and other fundraisingprograms.
