About this campaign

It's time for Camera Ready Kutz, Inc. to move from a room in an apartment to a fresh Brooklyn storefront in order to provide full grooming services. http://www.camerareadykutz.com/

We are Camera Ready Kutz, Inc. - an ever-expanding crew of LGBTQAI+ individuals dedicated to providing quality personal grooming for folks in our community & beyond!
Camera Ready Kutz was established in November 2007 by Brooklyn-based Master Barber and entrepreneur, Khane Kutzwell. Khane’s passion for barbering developed after hearing stories from community members about sub-par treatment in neighborhood shops: from women being denied service because they requested short styles to men having their hairlines unnecessarily “pushed back.” Determined to create a place where EVERYONE could safely and comfortably enjoy the classic barbershop experience, Khane enrolled in a barbering program….. And she’s been cutting hair ever since -- not only in NYC, but in California, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore & New Jersey, as well!

Why is this project important? There is a significant lack of queer-friendly businesses in the United States. To say our community is under served is a serious understatement! A conservative estimate sites about 300,000 LGBTQAI-identified citizens in New York City alone. Our community’s needs are complex & far-reaching -- the cultivation of tools for self-expression is just one of many.

Camera Ready Kutz is, in essence, a small piece of this cultural tapestry. What we want now is an opportunity to showcase to the wider public what we have to offer, while engaging our allies, friends, family, and newcomers in a better understanding of non-normative identities and queer aesthetics through the transformative medium of hair.
As it stands, Camera Ready Kutz can take clients by appointment only. A brick-and-mortar shop would provide CRK with a much-needed expansion: to allow us to take walk-ins and have a full line of grooming services, to offer a visible-yet-safe space for all, to encourage community conversation and relaxation ….. to better serve more members of our community every single day! Also, we will be providing a comfortable work environment for other stylists and practitioners who are just as passionate about serving our community.
